History & Major Art Events

Sausalito is rich in history from the 1800's forward to modern day. Marinship which was well known for its ship building during the war, was vacated at the end of the war.

Today this facility is the working studio for 100 artists, & small business services,  The ICB Building (Marinship) now opens the Artists Studios for two public events. The Spring Marin Arts Council Artists Open Studios Tour is held in early May 1, 2, 8, 9th - 2010. All geographic locations/Artists Studios included in the Tour will be open and participate on all four weekends. For more information visit the Marin Arts Council website for detail.

The ICB Building Winter Open Studios event is held the first weekend in
December. You can view some of the fine art works of these artists by visiting Sausalito Artists Open Studios and or ICBBuilding. For more information visit the Sausalito Artists Open Studios website for updated details.

The major event of the year is the very popular Sausalito Arts Festival,  it will be celebrating its 56th year and attracts 50,000 visitors over the three day
Labor Day Weekend "September 3,4,5,6, 2010".

The best local, American, and International Artists (+200) bring their combined perspectives, virtuoso skills, and more than 20,000 original works of art ? including paintings, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, fiber art, fine glass, woodwork, mixed media, and photography. 

From functional to surreal, witty to the elegantly decorative, these one-of-a-kind and limited edition Art Works form an unparalleled collection that can only be seen once a year. Enjoy nonstop entertainment on three stages or gourmet delights with champagne and fine wines. 
Sausalito Arts Festival

Each
April, this year on Saturday, April 24, 11 am to 5 pm, - 2010. Sausalito?s colorful floating homes community will present the Artists of Issaquah free exhibition. Guests will have an opportunity to view and purchase a wide variety of outstanding art, while getting a rare chance to be inside some of the most unique homes in the world.
 
15 resident artists of Issaquah Dock and 8 artists from Liberty Dock will be showing paintings, photography, sculpture and mixed media work at reasonable prices.

The Sausalito floating homes community includes some 400 houseboats and boasts a rich history of creative expression. The Artists of Issaquah are maintaining this tradition with their sixth annual exhibition.

On
May 30th, 2010 the Sausalito Art Fair, sponsored by the Sausalito Nursery School. Enjoy 100+ artists, fine food, wine, live music and a children's entertainment area featuring music, theater and activities just for kids! Admission to the Spring Faire is free. The Sausalito Spring Faire is an annual fundraiser for Sausalito Nursery School.

This event is now combined with 
The Caledonia St Fair which also features over 100 artists of all mediums who participate in the one day event. Over 5,000 people attended the fair last year. The Fair has a strong focus on music and dance performances, with three stages of live entertainment. A special children's area on the lawn at City Hall provides art and activities for our littlest residents. There are always surprises at this event, so don't miss out. The show goes on, rain or shine.
